The Police - "Don't Stand So Close To Me"

This is The Police in "Don't Stand So Close To Me". This is one of the first videos from the '80's. The Police were one of the biggest groups to see the potential of music video and use it.

The Clash - "Rock The Casbah"

This song single-handedly reminds me of the party songs of 1982-83, when I was a Freshman at UCLA. I could always hear this song playing on fraternity row. Cool song, and interesting video. This video got lots and lots of play on MTV.

Eddie Grant - "Electric Avenue"

I love this song, Eddie Grant's "Electric Avenue". I remember starting college at UCLA in the Summer of 1982 and hearing this song on the radio (KROQ in Los Angeles), and I remember the video.

John Cougar Mellencamp - "Pink Houses"

This video was really popular on MTV when it came out. John had always been "John Cougar" before this album. He added the "Mellencamp" part (his real last name) when he felt that it was safe and that he didn't have to worry about the record company anymore.

Michael Jackson - "Beat It"

This is Michael Jackson's big, huge breakout video, "Beat It". Before this video, black artists were denied play on MTV. Michael Jackson's video and song were so hot, MTV had to put it on. It just so happened that Michael was about to really come into his own big-time as an artist. Michael was already a huge star with hundreds of songs and many videos with the Jacksons before this video. He hit such a big-time with Quincy Jones producing that no single artist would ever sell as many albums as "Thriller" (the album that this song came from) did.

Til Tuesday "Voices Carry"

This is one of my favorite music videos of all time: Til Tuesday in "Voices Carry". The boyfriend is kind of hilarious.

Billy Idol "White Wedding"

This video made Billy Idol a hit on MTV: White Wedding.

Dire Straits "Money For Nothing"

This is Dire Straits' video "Money For Nothing". Sting is also signing on this song. This video was the most popular on MTV at its height.

Missing Persons- "Destination Unknown"

This is a video from my favorite album in 1983- "Spring Session M" . This is "Destination Unknown" by Missing Persons. The song is better than the video, but they were an interesting looking group.

The Fixx "One Thing Leads To Another"

I like this song a lot. It reminds me of when I moved into the Dykstra Hall dorm at UCLA in the Winter Quarter of 1983. I could hear this song playing at the frat houses outside my window. This video was pretty cool, too- one of the first that I remember from MTV.

The Cars "You Might Think"

This is the video for The Cars, "You Might Think". This video was so overplayed on MTV, but guess what? I watched it every time! I know that I must have video recorded this video at least 10 times, too. This video and song together were addicting.

Kim Carnes "Bette Davis Eyes"

This is Kim Carnes' video, "Bette Davis Eyes". I remember this as the very first music video that I saw. When we got MTV shortly afterward, this video was always on there!

Welcome to my 80's songs blog, where I will post some of my favorite music videos from the 1980's. It's gonna be a cool collection.
